Great Crested Newt

The Great Crested is Britain’s largest and most threatened species of newt. The female carefully makes a concertina shape out of leaves and wraps her eggs in them for protection.

Their decline is due to the intensification of agriculture.
Many of the ponds in which they breed have become polluted with pesticides and fertilisers.
